Aurora LNG Project on Digby risks Air Quality in Prince Rupert

Fishing Communities Face Risk to their Air Quality if Aurora Built

Fishing Communities Face Risk to their Air Quality if Aurora Built

When we first started reviewing the Aurora LNG    Environmental Assessment, we thought the air quality in Dodge Cove would be effected, but our experts have confirmed that residential areas in Prince Rupert will be even worse than Dodge Cove. If the Aurora project goes ahead its pollution will be added the that of the Fairview Container Terminal emissions, which already impact Prince Rupert residents.

The biggest problem is NO2 also called nitrogen dioxide which most people know about as one of the chemicals responsible for smog and acid rain. It produces short and long-term human health impacts. Our expert, Gordon Esplin, Genesis Engineering Inc. advises that Aurora underestimated the NO2 and that if they correct their forecast it will show that 1hr NO2 levels will exceed the government objectives to protect human health in residential areas for example at the Graham Ave. Childcare in PR.
